CMP Capitol Dress Code
*LABEL ALL Outer Wear, Backpacks, & Lunch Containers with Student’s Name*
Students are generally expected to wear clean, untorn clothing that doesn’t prevent them from participating in any school activity. Clothing should not have characters, large imagery, or large phrases/logos (Larger than the palm of your hand).
All plain colors are acceptable.
Montessori education focuses on the inner development of the child’s mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. As such, we seek to limit the undue focus of attention on external appearances. After much discussion about the relative values of uniforms and individual freedom, CMP Capitol Campus has adopted the following “Dress Code”. We believe your child will be happiest when dressed in casual, comfortable clothing.
Bottoms:
Fabrics such as jeans, tights, leggings, and other fabrics are acceptable. Pants, skirts, and shorts can be in any single-toned color. Skirts and shorts must be as long as the mid-thigh. Bottoms should cover all undergarments.
Tops:
Shirts, blouses, and tank tops may be worn in any single-toned color. All CMP-approved logos or event shirts are acceptable. Top lengths should allow for the top's lower edge to meet the bottom garment's waistband. Any straps should be a minimum of one inch in width.
Jackets and Coats:
Jackets and Coats may be in any color/pattern. They may not have any characters, imagery, or phrases/logos on them larger than the palm of your hand.
Shoes:
For safety, all shoes should fasten securely to the foot with a back strap and allow for both indoor and outdoor activity. No wheels, lights, etc. Appropriate running shoes for P.E. days are expected.
Body Adornment:
Jewelry, scarves, hats, and other accessories that create learning diversions may not be permitted at the staff's discretion.
Backpack/Lunchboxes:
We encourage the limitation of characters/commercialism on items brought to school.
Procedure for Dress Code Violations:
1st Incident: Warning message to parents letting them know of the violation. The student will be informed as well.
2nd Incident: Message to parents letting them know of the violation. Students will be asked to change into clothing from our Clothes Closet. If no options are available, a phone call home will be made for a change of clothes to be delivered.
3rd Incident: The parent will be contacted to bring a change of clothing. The student will wait at the school.
